Perlahan tapi pasti client side application mulai ditinggalkan dan digantikan oleh web application. Trend web application saat ini semakin berkembang dengan cepat yang diakibatkan oleh beberapa faktor utama yaitu akses internet yang semakin cepat (indonesia perkecualian :) ) serta pergerakan pengguna yang semakin mobile. Web application menawarkan kemudahan pemakaian dari mana saja dan dimana saja, sebut saja google office, dan masih banyak lagi.

Namun demikian web application masih tergantung oleh adanya web browser interface. dibatasi oleh tombol, back, front dan reload. Prism, yang dikembangkan oleh Mozilla lab menjawab tantangan itu. Prism membungkus web application seperti layaknya desktop application, tanpa tergantung dari browser.
